Special Benefit Party For B.A.B.E. Closes XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits
Friday, April 29 at 6:30pm
Berman/Turner Projects @ Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA

From b.a.b.e.:

A special benefit party to help b.a.b.e. ('breast awareness benefits everyone'), a non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to furthering awareness about breast cancer, will close the exhibit of Timothy Greenfield's photography exhibit XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits, currently on view at Berman/Turner Projects, Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica until May 3.

The party will take place this Friday, April 29 at 6:30pm, and will be a cocktail reception party.

The party is sponsored in part by Ten, LA Weekly, Rockenwagner Restaurant and XXX Tequila.

About b.a.b.e.:

b.a.b.e. is a non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to furthering awareness about breast cancer, changing people's perceptions of the disease, and supporting those researchers working to eliminate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

The b.a.b.e. Approach - Why We Are Different

At b.a.b.e., we don't ignore the issue of breasts as sex objects; we embrace it. We harness the power and the allure of the breast to draw support from previously untapped sources. In its effort to promote the breast, b.a.b.e. targets the most successful supporters of breasts, men, as its primary source of funding and support. Serving as the charitable foundation for male-oriented entertainment companies, b.a.b.e. will fund research grants for basic, clinical, and translational breast cancer research, for innovative projects in the areas of breast health education, and breast cancer screening and treatment.

b.a.b.e. is the only advocacy organization working to create such a team of non-traditional sponsors and supporters in the fight against breast cancer.

Join the b.a.b.e. team. Increase your company's public profile, profits, and good karma. There is nothing sexier than a hero.

In addition to seeking funding directly from male-oriented entertainment companies, b.a.b.e. will work with the same organizations to create non-traditional fund raising events that entertain, change how people view and talk about breast cancer, and generate profit-raising press coverage while raising funds to eradicate the disease. It's all to keep breasts bouncing.

The Facts About Breasts

There are over two million women living in the United States who have been diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer. One in every eight woman will develop breast cancer.

41,000 women -110 each day - are expected to die from breast cancer during 2005.

A new case of Breast Cancer is diagnosed every two minutes. By the time cancer is diagnosed, it has already been present for six to ten 10 years.

The breast is the leading cancer site among American Women.

Breast cancer is a 'younger woman's' disease: approximately 11,000 women under the age of 40 will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, and close to 1,300 will die.

Young women's cancers are generally more aggressive and result in lower survival rates.

One in eight women. Think about that statistic the next time you're in a restaurant, at the office, or watching a movie filled with women.

b.a.b.e.'s Story:

b.a.b.e. founder Marcia Hrichison has spent 20 years working in the entertainment and music industries. In January 2001, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Two months later, days after she produced 'Backstage at the GRAMMYS' she underwent a mastectomy, and later chemotherapy. During 2001, Marcia did a lot of research. Breast cancer fundraising items and activities were NOT sexy: pink kitchen appliances, pink scarves, pink bracelets, pink cookbooks, pink bears. Photos from fund-raising events are filled with the triumphant faces of women that had finished the walk. Women. Where were the men? Breast cancer attacks breasts. Who appreciates breasts more than men? Marcia had an epiphany. This is about breasts. Breasts are sexy. Breasts are beautiful. If breast cancer continues to affect one in every eight women, there won't be many breasts or women left. She created a non-profit organization that is sexy, that teams with the industries that appreciate the power of breasts. b.a.b.e. was born.

b.a.b.e. is supporting the following organizations in their mission to eradicate breast cancer, develop new treatments for breast cancer, and increase awareness of breast cancer: The City of Hope Cancer Center, and The Wellness Community.
